Chugach State Park
- Shared Baths:
- The Kennicott Glacier Lodge is a remote, wilderness lodge and a replica of a historic mining company building. As such, there are no rooms with private baths in the Main Lodge. There are plenty of clean, private-usage bathrooms and showers close to the guest rooms for the use of our Lodge guests. All Guestrooms in our new South Wing have a private bath in the room.
- Weather:
- Alaska can be very changeable. Kennicott is at 2200' elevation and sits right next to a glacier. We are in a cul-de-sac surrounded by mountains on three sides. Our summer weather is generally good and we get very little wind. On sunny days the temperature may get up to 80 degrees F, with nighttime lows in the 50's. On rainy days, however, the 25 mile long icecube in front of town cools things off to the 40's very quickly! May through August temperatures run 40 to 80 deg. F, and September runs 30 to 60 deg. F.
- Clothing & Equipment:
- Casual and comfortable clothing is the order of the day here. Outdoor clothing that can be layered for warmth works great. Lightweight hiking boots or walking shoes are suitable, unless you want to do some serious ice or rock climbing. Be sure to bring some light weight rain gear. A hat, gloves, and sunglasses might be welcomed out on the glacier. Don't forget your camera and extra film. A day pack, water bottle, and binoculars may come in handy also.
- Stores:
- There are no grocery or general merchandise stores in either McCarthy or Kennicott. There are gift shops, but items like batteries, cigarettes, groceries, and toiletries are not available.
- Children:
- Families with children are welcomed at Kennicott Glacier Lodge, but we do not have babysitting available. There are high chairs and some yard toys. We also have folding cribs available for use. Please mention that you need one when you reserve your room.
- Pets:
- While we love animals, we do not have facilities for them here at Kennicott.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING PETS. - Communications:
- McCarthy gets mail service twice weekly (Wed. & Fri.) flown in from the post office in Glennallen. You may leave postcards, or other mail, with us and we will send it out on Wednesday or Friday. Stamps are not available at Kennicott.
- We have telephone service at the lodge. Our business phone number is 907-554-4477. There are no phones in the rooms, but there is a pay phone available for Guest's use. The fax number is 907-554-4478. Check with the front desk if you need to send a fax.
- There is currently no internet service available to Guests at Kennicott Glacier Lodge. We are working on this.
- Meals:
- Our cooks welcome you with hearty home cooked meals including fresh bread and pastries, garden salads, and gourmet desserts. Meal times and average prices:

Dinner is one seating only, at 7 pm, and is served "family-style". There is one entree choice for the day, and the menu is posted on our board each morning.
Guests are seated at tables of 8 to 10 people, and the food is presented in large serving bowls. Dinner includes salad, dinner bread or roll, entree, vegetable, pasta or potato or rice, dessert, coffee, tea, lemonade, and iced tea.
Dinner reservations are placed for Lodge Guests for each night of your stay. If you will not be eating dinner with us, please cancel your reservation with the Front Desk person.
If you are on our Vacation Package, your meals are included in the daily rate you paid. Each day of vacation package includes one breakfast, one lunch (either in the dining room, or a sack lunch), and one dinner. Meals may be on any day, so if you arrive for dinner, then breakfast and lunch the next day would be included. Beverages included in Vacation Package meals are coffee, tea, lemonade, iced tea, or water. Alcoholic beverages, soda, juice, and milk are an extra charge. Between meal snacks and dessert with lunch are an extra charge.
We will gladly try to accommodate special dietary requirements if you let us know in advance.
