About Our Historic Alaska Lodge
For a comfortable and historic Alaska lodge, look no further than Kennicott Glacier Lodge.
Built in 1987, the Kennicott Lodge is a replica of one of the historic mining buildings from the copper mining boom town days. We are located near the center of the 40 remaining structures in the ghost town of Kennicott, a company town built circa 1910.
The Main Lodge has 25 Guest rooms, a dining room, 2 living rooms, and a 190 foot long front porch with a panoramic view of the Chugach and Wrangell Mountains. All is in one building, so the aroma of fresh brewed coffee or baking bread may wake you in the morning.
Your clean, quiet bedroom is decorated with old mining artifacts and photos, and makes a great home base for exploring the area. Each bedroom has a cold water sink, one or two beds, a nightstand and chair. Some of the rooms face the glacier in front of our Alaska lodge, and some rooms face the forest behind the lodge. There are plenty of spotlessly clean bathrooms and shower rooms located throughout the lodge for your use. Baths are "private use", but shared by other Guests.
Our new South Wing building is located about 70 yards south of the Main Lodge. In the South Wing there are 10 Guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. These rooms have 2 queen sized beds, a dresser, a nightstand, a table, and chairs. All South Wing rooms face the glacier, and the first floor rooms have access out onto the front porch. Meals are taken at the Main Lodge.
You'll enjoy the casual atmosphere and congenial staff when you dine in our centrally located dining room in our Main Alaska wilderness lodge. Breakfast is a buffet, either continental or full breakfast, served from 7 to 10 am. Lunch is served from noon to 3, and features soups and sandwiches. Dinner is served family style at a single seating (7 pm). The fare has been called "wilderness gourmet" and features homemade soups, pastries, breads and luscious desserts.
You can share your day's discoveries with our other guests or plan tomorrow's adventure while enjoying our family style dinner.
Every night after dinner, one of the local guide companies gives a slide show in the upstairs living room. They will show photos and tell you about the area of Kennicott. Or you can just relax and enjoy the evening sunshine from the front porch and listen to the glacier creak, pop, and groan. It's that close!
