Canopy Zip Line
The Kennicott area will soon be home to Alaska’s Boreal Canopy Adventures, North America’s most remote treetop adventure! Opening in mid-June 2013, the newest activity in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park will feature six zip lines (the longest will be over 700 feet long), two ladders, and three sky bridges and a short ground hike.
Boreal Canopy Adventures
Perched on the Nizina River bluffs about 15 miles from our lodge, the Boreal Canopy course overlooks a glacial river valley and the Chugach Range. Alaska Boreal Canopy Adventures will be offering half day adventures that include a 40 minute ride in an 8 passenger Polaris ATV each way from McCarthy (Kennicott guests will shuttle by van to McCarthy) where you will learn the history of the Nizina area. On arriving at the Canopy Welcome Center, gear up for a short ground school to learn the basics of zip-lining. Once on the course you’ll have about an hour and a half exploring the boreal forest along the zip lines. While on the tree platforms, guides will focus on pointing out the sights and interpreting the boreal forest ecosystem. At the end there is a brief tour of an off grid solar (PV) power system. Tours will be $195 per person. For more information see the website link above.
Come stay at Kennicott Glacier Lodge and try out the newest Alaska zip-line course while exploring the boreal forest!
